This is my "home", in fact, the type of media I'm most comfortable with is anime and manga, this is also the main reason why the cinema corner is empty, I really hope you find some good recommendations here.

Animes

Serial Experiments Lain

My favorite anime, it's also the holy grail of tech nerds (I bet you can't find a hardcore nerd who doesn't love this anime). The first time I watched it I was like: "What the fuck? Who put a pound of LSD in my brain?". Seriously this anime is very good, very complex too, for some the 1st episodes can be very boring but after that it's very good, very crazy too. To be able to understand it, you'll have to rewatch it a few times, but it's worth it, even though it's not an anime "for everyone" I recommend you watch it. In fact, this anime got me interested in cyberculture and cyberpunk, that is: It's part of the reason this site exists

"Let's All Love Lain"

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Another classic for the list, this anime is another very complex one, linked to the state of mental health of its creator, Hideaki Anno, who was also greatly affected by production problems, things that make everything a little more difficult to understand. Leaving aside all the symbolism and philosophy of eva (or evangelion if you prefer to call it that), I have a very special feeling for this anime, I think you really should check it out. An important thing to keep in mind is the last episodes, quite controversial, the film The End of Evangelion is a complement, so to speak, to these episodes. As for the remakes and other series, I didn't like it very much, but I think the manga, even though it's not from the same creator, is worth a look.

"I mustn't run away"

Ghost in the Shell

Another classic (as you can see I really like cyberpunk classics), in case you didn't know this movie was one of the inspirations for The Matrix. Another work with a good dose of existentialism, but the coolest thing about this film is its ending (no spoilers here, go watch it), with that said it is worth noting its excellent animation. About the remakes and other works, I didn't get to see it, but since I don't like the "vibe" of the original manga, it's to be expected that I don't recommend watching it without finishing the classic movie first.

“All things change in a dynamic environment. Your effort to remain what you are is what limits you.”

Akira

Plus a little existentialism (yes, I really like works with a good dose of existentialism), this is not the last cyberpunk on the list either. For me it sucks to describe this anime, seriously, I can't put it into words, you'll have to watch it to know how good it is, as an incentive I'll just say that besides being "a little" crazy, it's a masterful adaptation

"Good for Health. Bad for education"

Psycho-Pass

This is the last cyberpunk on the list, but only because it's the last on the list anyway. With a good touch of dystopia (another thing I also love, remember that cyberpunk is dystopian). It's the kind of work that you can take a lot of reflections from, but I won't go into detail so you don't get any spoilers. Let's say that this work is a dystopia well done, the first episodes are just an introduction to the universe of the work, after that the series starts to be worth watching and shows us what a good dystopia is. One thing worth noting is that, for me at least, the series loses quality as the seasons go by, I myself only have good memories of the 1st season.

    Berserk

This is the best manga I've read so far, it's quite strong, if you have a weak stomach stay away from this work. It has a very strong relationship with the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, reaching obvious citations. It has a lot of symbolism, the art is almost surreal, the characters are very well built and developed, but unfortunately the original author passed away before finishing the work, currently the one who is continuing the work is one of his friends, as there is a long way to go before the work ends, unfortunately there is no way to know if the ending will be good.

"It was much too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was like a heap of raw iron."

    Vagabond

This manga has surreal art, one of the best samurai works out there, what makes this work unique is the mix of samurai and buddhist philosophy, the character development is also great, this is a very difficult work to describe with words, you better go read it instead. Unfortunately it is another work that will never be finished, because, apparently, the author abandoned it.

"It’s not about being better than someone else. It’s about being better than you were yesterday."

    Kingdom

I haven't finished reading this one yet, but I can say that it's worth it, from what I've seen it's quite long, the art is also great, it impresses in the details, another work that is worth more for you to read it than for me to write.

"The law is a wish. A way to guide both a nation and its people towards the ideal state that one envisions."

    Tokyo Ghoul

First: the anime adaptation was really bad. With that said, let's move on to the manga, this was one of my first mangas, I was interested in the reference to Franz Kafka at the beginning of the story, after that the transformation of the protagonist was interesting, I really liked the atmosphere of the story and the way that the relationships are developed. After I finished the original story, I started the continuation (Tokyo Ghoul:re), I won't go into too much depth, but the ending pleased me a lot.

"If you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be... a tragedy."

    Vinland Saga

This is one of the best Viking stories out there, unlike Tokyo Ghoul, the anime adaptation was pretty good, if you don't like reading manga watch it. I would say that, in addition to the reflections, the best part of the work is the development and journey of the protagonist, it was one of the most rewarding so far, at the moment I write this the manga is being published and the way the author decides this is a mystery, but I bet it will be good.

"He just doesn’t realize it himself. Everyone is a slave to something."
